Street Department

by admin last modified 2006-10-04 07:35 PM

The Street Department maintains the streets, storm drains and ditches withing the city limits.

The City of Rainier Street Department maintains approximately 11.2 miles of streets within the City Limits. This department also maintains the storm drainage infrastructure and ditches within City jurisdictional streets. Due to property tax limitations and a decline in highway funding revenues shared by the state, the City has increasing difficulty maintaining its existing street system. Over the last decade the City has been very successful securing Small City Allotment Grants, which have been used to overlay several streets in town.

Sidewalks

The responsibility and liability for repair and maintenance of sidewalk sections in Rainier is the abutting property owner. Currently, the City does not actively inspect sidewalks for repairs but relies on citizen complaints prior to enforcement action.

Potholes

The Public Works Crew tries to keep up with potholes as time allows, so invariably potholes are missed. If you would like to report a specific pothole please contact City Hall at 503.556.7301 and we will try to fill the pothole as soon as possible.
