Riverfront Park Ballfield and Open Spaces
During the summer of 2006 Rainier completed Phase II of the Riverfront Park Development Plan with a grant from...
...the Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation.
The City received a Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant $111,970) from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) to construct Phase II of the Riverfront Park Development Plan. This project included a regulation size Little League field in the southeast area of the park, open area west of the ballfield and pedestrian/trail improvements. The Rainier Little League participated with the project by contributing $30,000 to reduce Rainier's local participation amount.
Phase II is a wonderful additon to Riverfront and will provide a permanent place for Little Leaguers to play ball in the downtown business district. This is also part of the City's strategy to attract more visitors downtown. The open space is already used by park visitors and teams for their activities. Also, the trail improvements compliment the park trail system and will ultimately tie into the Riverfront Trail system.
Special thanks to Redco for the support of this project, the Parks Advisory Work Group for their continuing efforts with Riverfront Park and the Rainier Little League for their sizable financial contribution to this project.
